Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most prevalent heart disease in cats, with a pathophysiology distinct from that of dogs, requiring a species-specific formulation. NUPEC® Feline Cardiac provides high protein to preserve muscle mass, mandatorily supplemented taurine, marine-sourced EPA+DHA as a functional cardioprotective ingredient, and moderate sodium restriction. Designed for adult cats with clinically diagnosed heart disease, it supports nutritional management from early stages (ACVIM B1) through congestive heart failure, helping to delay the progression of myocardial damage.
Rice, poultry fat, casein, dried egg, fish hydrolysate, potato protein, coconut oil, beet pulp, fish oil, natural chicken flavor, chicory inulin, chicken meat meal, L-arginine, L-isoleucine, cellulose, L-valine, choline, taurine, sodium, potassium, calcium, lysine, L-carnitine, methionine, vitamin A supplement, cholecalciferol, alpha-tocopherol acetate, sodium bisulfite menadione complex, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin B12 supplement, biotin, vitamin C, calcium pantothenate, folic acid, organic iron, organic manganese, organic selenium, organic zinc, ethylenediamine dihydroiodide, Silymarin, Yucca schidigera extract, rosemary and tocopherols as preservatives.
Not recommended for pregnant or lactating females, or for growing kittens.
Development of a catabolic state that promotes progressive muscle mass loss (cardiac cachexia); a condition associated with a worse prognosis.
Highly digestible, high biological quality proteins (chicken, turkey, fish, and egg) with essential amino acids to help maintain muscle mass.
Altered myocardial energy metabolism (lower efficiency in producing and using ATP). In advanced stages, reduced appetite and the catabolic state compromise energy intake and promote muscle mass loss.
A highly digestible diet with adequate energy density, using selected sources of carbohydrates and fats, that helps meet energy needs and limit body catabolism.
Sodium and water retention. Diuretic treatment can alter the balance of electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium, which are important for electrical and muscular function.
Moderately restricted dietary sodium that helps manage fluid retention, with controlled levels of potassium and magnesium that maintain adequate electrolyte balance. Supplemented with arginine, a precursor of nitric oxide, to support endothelial and vascular function.
Persistent oxidative stress and chronic inflammation contribute to cellular damage and the progression of cardiac dysfunction.
Omega-3s as cardioprotectants, with antiarrhythmic and anti-inflammatory effects, along with taurine and L-carnitine that optimize fat oxidation, stabilize electrical function, and reinforce the cardiac walls.
