False Superstitions About Cats
- Equipo NUPEC®
Cats are surrounded by many myths and superstitions that, unfortunately, some people still accept as true, giving these beautiful companion animals a bad reputation. However, much of what is said about these majestic creatures is false, so today we clear up the most famous superstitions about cats, all of which are, of course, wrong.
Feline superstitions:
Black cats bring bad luck
This superstition has survived since the Middle Ages, a time when black animals—not just cats, but any black animal—were associated with evil, demons and witches.
Crossing paths with a black cat is a bad omen
This superstition is linked to the previous one: since black cats were considered bad-luck animals, people used to believe that crossing paths with one would bring all kinds of misfortune.
Cats can see ghosts
There are many stories and legends about cats with amazing abilities to see ghosts or spirits, but there is no scientific evidence to support this; in fact, the very existence of ghosts is still widely debated. So this is just another superstition.
At NUPEC®, we would like to put an end to these superstitions that give cats a bad image, and let everyone know that cats are wonderful pets with no connection to good or bad luck, spirits or the paranormal. Help us share this information to dispel these myths about cats.
To learn more about the traits of cats—not only black ones, but cats of every color—we recommend talking to your trusted veterinarian, who can answer all your questions.
